1990 Corrado 1.8 G60

So i took my g60 to take the emissions test and it failed horrible they told me there was a lot of carbon monoxide so i was wondering if anybody knows what it could be?? or what i can start checking i know its not my motor because i have 51 thousand miles...
one thing i dont have connected is the vdo idle valve it does not work i dont know if it has anything to do with it not passing the test??

if anyone can help me it be great

I think that the best you could do is first set your engine components in god working condition.

So repair your idle valve ( you know thas gives you air in idle speed)
- check all the vacumm lines,
- check all the manifold tubes ( from the G charger to the engine), it's easy to check listening to a possible loss of presure.
- check the most important conectors like :
1.-lamba conector and status
