1995 Corrado 2.9 VR6 Turbo

Hey people

I want to start some serious mods on my vr6, to improve speed and handling. BUT i am still using my car as a daily drive, doing apporx 30-40 miles a day.

My car is at 120,000 miles so i would probly have a full rebuild of the bottom and top end first...

Any input or advice will be much appreciated...thanks Nod

First of all u need to ask yourself if you want to keep it N/A (naturally aspirated) or go with forced induction (Turbo / Supercharger)... What kind of power are u looking for?
If i had a daily VR6 i def wouldn't go Turbo as i think it spoils the smoothness of the Rado and ain't right for daily use
If u can answer this then i might be able to help, writing u some mods Cheers...

hey tornado

i would like the car to do 0-60 in around 5 seconds. i have 17" wheels, so i would downsize to 16's to help. If this type of performance takes away the rado feel then i may even re-condsider???

As for forced induction, i am believing a would need it to achieve the speed i want. Turbos to my knowledge are a nightmare to maintain so a supercharger may be better for a daily drive?

I have heard of people chipping vr's and uprating other parts? but i am guessing this wouldnt achieve that type of performance i want?

The only way to achive such power figures (o-60mph in 5 sec!!!) is turbo (and 4wd also is needed). A good N/A vr would get u around 230bhp, a supercharger one around 250+bhp and with an FMIC maybe 260bhp....Anything more than this u would def need a turbo.
There are bolt-on supercharger kits for the vr which deliver smooth and reliable power, but turbo is something completely different and more complex (in that i can't be of much help ).
I would go for N/A or S/charged, and if that wasn't enough consider a 1.8T 20V BAM 225 (Audi TT, S3, etc) swap

a N/A vr could get 230bhp, that sounds a good starting block i think. What mods would that include tornado?

i wouldnt want to change from the vr engine. I love it too much!!!

For this kind of N/A power u need:
-rebuilt the engine and bore it to 3.0l - 3.1l spec with forged pistons and APR head, rod and main bolts
-ported & polished cylinder head
-chip for the ECU or standalone management system
-cams (268o or more)& upgraded valve springs
-if u can afford it then a VSR or Schrick VGI inlet manifold
-bigger injectors
-4 bar FPR & uprated fuel pump
-complete exhaust system and racing cat and 6-branch headers
-big-bore throttle body (ex.Velocity, ABD, etc)
-air intake
-spark plugs and leads & MSD ignition
-upgraded clutch and lightened flywheel & underdrive pulleys (crank, tensioner, water pump, power steering)
-knifed-edged crank
-upgraded engine mounts
-oil cooler, silicon hoses, low temp fan switch and thermostat
-short shifter and or some kind of racing gearbox (ex.VW Motorsport)
-Quaife LSD to get all that power down

With those u could easily reach 220bhp and achieve a 0-60 in about 6,6+sec. There are also many other things u can do to improve the transmission, handling, brakes etc.

-ECU reprogramming (chiptuning)
-Straight exhaust system without catalisator
-Krumer (exhaust collector) it`s german word but I don`t know how it called in eng.
-SCHRICK camshafts
-Sport air filter (APEXi or Green)

And you reach 210bhp easy!

But if you have more money and you wont more power- just make swap engines VR6 2.9 VS R32 (sometimes in e-bay u can find some engines per price less than 4000EUR) and then if those 250bhp isn`t enaught just put some turbo on it

I dont know nothing about Techtonics, but in continental Europe we use Megasquirt or VEMS (reprogramming ECU) cost`s are starting from 250GBP (without job and programming)- it`s like chiptuning but with one huge difference u can make corrections and change power links, ofcorse if you are enaught Hi-tech educated

P.S. Remmember one thing- allways somebody be faster than you. It`s like neverending cirkle.

Exactly, to make right choose u must answer to lot`s of questions:
1) What kind of car u want (for circuit racing, sprint racing or for everyday use).
2) How many money u r ready to spent.
3) What kind of job u can do by yourself to reduce cost of modding

And other....

Personally I chose moddings, something between- just for fun and everyday use. Actually I just enjoy my 210bhp and emotions when I feel those horses and amaizing VR6 song under my bonnet- it`s enaught for me, but if I wont something more but with the same engine song I make swap to R32 engine.

u still need a full engine rebuild and a ported head with special cams to get even over the 260 bhp on a stage 2 vf charger on ur stock engine with the wear and tear u will never get over the 250 bhp without blowing the engine up.
